Dr. Omoniyi Yakubu Adebisi is a physician specializing in Family Medicine and Obstetrics, with a clinical practice that includes Family Medicine, Obstetrics, and Emergency Medicine. His professional work spans clinical medicine, medical education, global health, and healthcare systems development across North America and Africa.
Dr. Adebisi obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, in 1992. He subsequently completed his residency training in Family Medicine at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. In pursuit of advanced obstetrical surgical skills, he undertook fellowship training in Surgical Obstetrics through the Advanced Women’s Healthcare Fellowship Program in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Tennessee in Memphis, Tennessee. He also completed additional Faculty Development and Surgical Obstetrics fellowship training through the Médicos Para La Familia Fellowship Program in Memphis, Tennessee, USA.
Dr. Adebisi is board-certified in Family Medicine by both the American Board of Family Medicine and the College of Family Physicians of Canada. He also holds board certification in Family Medicine Obstetrics from the American Board of Physician Specialties and has additional certification in Enhanced Surgical Obstetrics Skills from the College of Family Physicians of Canada, designated as CCFP(OSS). In recognition of his professional achievements and leadership in Family Medicine, he has been elected Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (FAAFP) and Fellow of the College of Family Physicians of Canada (FCFPC).
Following completion of his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program in Nigeria, Dr. Adebisi worked briefly in Nigeria before relocating to Liberia during the civil war, where he served as a member of the Disarmament and Demobilization Team of the United Nations Military Observers / United Nations Volunteer Group. In this role, he participated in international peacekeeping efforts focused on the disarmament and demobilization of former combatants as part of the United Nations stabilization initiatives in Liberia.
After completing his postgraduate training in the United States, Dr. Adebisi worked as a locum physician in both the United States and Canada, gaining extensive clinical experience across diverse healthcare systems. He later established his medical practice in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Canada, where he currently practices Community Family Medicine, Obstetrics, and Emergency Medicine, providing comprehensive care in both community and hospital settings.
In addition to his clinical work in Canada, Dr. Adebisi has been actively involved in healthcare development initiatives internationally. He founded Medics Specialist Hospitals in Nigeria, healthcare institutions committed to improving access to quality medical care and strengthening healthcare delivery systems.
Dr. Adebisi is also actively engaged in clinical research and medical scholarship. He is the author and contributor to numerous clinical publications and scholarly works in Obstetrics, Gynecology, Family Medicine, and related clinical disciplines, with research interests that include maternal and neonatal health, emergency obstetric care, and community-based primary care. His academic contributions reflect a commitment to advancing evidence-based medical practice and improving clinical outcomes in both developed and resource-limited healthcare settings.
He currently serves as Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, where he contributes to the education, mentorship, and training of future physicians.
Beyond clinical practice and academia, Dr. Adebisi is the Founder of Save Nigerian Mothers Initiatives (SANMINIT), an international nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality through medical missions, physician training programs, community outreach, and research initiatives.
